The Cyprus digital nomad visa is not a visa and not open-ended. It is a temporary residence permit under a scheme the Council of Ministers created by decision, not by statute, with a ceiling on how many permits can be granted. It asks for the same net income as Greece, costs a fraction of Greece's fees, and gives a shorter run.
Everything below is taken from the Migration Department of the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection: its page "Digital nomads and family members", posted 31 December 2025, and its list of accompanying documents for digital nomads, version of 19 March 2025, both read on 26 October 2026.
Cyprus digital nomad visa: a scheme with a cap of 500
The scheme was approved by the Council of Ministers on 15 October 2021 with a ceiling of 100 residence permits, raised on 3 March 2022 to 500. The Migration Department's page of 31 December 2025 says it "is once again accepting applications" and that "the maximum number of permits that can be granted remains at 500".
The cap is the first thing to know. When it is reached, applications stop — the page's own wording, "once again accepting", records that they have stopped before. Check that the scheme is open on the day you apply.
Who can get the Cyprus digital nomad visa
The page opens the scheme to nationals of countries outside the EU and the EEA who:
- can work remotely through telecommunications technology;
- are employed by a company registered abroad for which they can work from anywhere, or are self-employed with clients located abroad;
- can prove stable and sufficient monthly net income of at least €3,500 "after the deduction of contributions and taxes".
The work may not be for anyone in Cyprus. An employee files his employer's confirmation that the work "does not concern activity or provision of services to an employer registered in Cyprus"; a self-employed applicant confirms the same about clients established in Cyprus.
Cyprus digital nomad visa requirements: €3,500 net, and how it is proved
The document list repeats the figure and adds the family uplift: "The above amount is increased by 20% for the spouse or partner and by 15% for each child."
| Household | Uplift | Net per month |
|---|---|---|
| One person | Dash | €3,500 |
| With a spouse or partner | 20% | €4,200 |
| With a partner and one child | 20% + 15% | €4,725 |
| With a partner and two children | 20% + 30% | €5,250 |
It is proved two ways together: proof of salary payment showing the net income, and detailed bank statements for the last six months proving a stable income from outside Cyprus. Where no document shows the net figure, the applicant swears an affirmation that his income after contributions and taxes is not below the threshold.
The rest of the file for a first permit:
- passport valid for at least three months, and the page showing the last entry into Cyprus;
- for an employee: an employment contract that is open-ended or runs at least as long as the permit, the employer's confirmation of remote work, a stamped copy of the company's registration certificate abroad, its contact details and the applicant's position;
- for the self-employed: contracts for projects or services running at least as long as the permit;
- an original criminal record certificate from the country of origin or residence;
- blood tests for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B and C, and a chest X-ray for tuberculosis, certified by a specialist doctor;
- health insurance, Plan A, covering inpatient and outpatient care and repatriation of remains;
- a title deed or a lease for a house or flat.
Cyprus digital nomad visa cost and how long it lasts
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Issue or renewal of the temporary residence permit | €70 |
| First registration in the Aliens' Register | €70 |
The first permit is valid for one year. A renewal is issued "with a validity of maximum two years", filed in Nicosia at least a month before the permit expires. The page puts examination at five to seven weeks.
So the scheme gives up to three years in all, and the page names no route beyond them on the same scheme.
How to apply for the Cyprus digital nomad visa: within three months of arrival
The application is made in Cyprus, not at a consulate. "Within 3 months of arrival, the applicant should submit the relevant application" at the Migration Department's central offices in Nicosia, in person or through an authorised representative. Documents must be officially translated and certified. A file missing any document is not accepted for examination. Photographs and fingerprints are taken at the department or at the district Aliens and Immigration police unit.
Someone already legally resident in Cyprus under another status can apply to switch to the digital nomad permit at the same office.
Family members on the Cyprus digital nomad visa
A spouse or civil partner and minor children can live in Cyprus for the same period as the digital nomad, each on a temporary residence permit of their own, "without the right to be employed or perform any economic activity in Cyprus".
Cyprus digital nomad tax: resident after 183 days
The Migration Department's page states the tax position in one line: a digital nomad who stays in Cyprus "for one or more periods that in total exceed 183 days within the same tax year" is considered a Cyprus tax resident, "provided they are not tax residents in any other country".
What follows from residence — how a foreign salary is taxed, and whether any of Cyprus's exemptions for people taking up employment there reach a remote employee of a foreign company — is a question for a tax adviser in Cyprus. The page does not answer it, and neither do we.
Cyprus or Greece digital nomad visa: the two compared
| Cyprus | Greece | |
|---|---|---|
| Net income | €3,500 a month | €3,500 a month |
| Family uplift | +20% partner, +15% child | +20% partner, +15% child |
| Where you apply | In Nicosia, within three months of arrival | At a Greek consulate, before travelling |
| First term | One year, permit | Up to 12 months, visa |
| Then | Renewal for up to two years | Two-year permit, then the general income permit |
| Fees | €70 and €70 | €75, then €1,000 |
| Cap | 500 permits | None |
The thresholds are identical. Cyprus is far cheaper and lets you apply after arriving; Greece costs more and opens onto a longer route. The Greek scheme is in the Greece digital nomad visa.
Frequently asked questions
Does Cyprus have a digital nomad visa?
Yes. The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa scheme, approved by the Council of Ministers in October 2021, gives non-EU nationals working remotely for employers or clients abroad a temporary residence permit. The scheme has a ceiling of 500 permits.
How much income do you need for the Cyprus digital nomad visa?
At least €3,500 a month net, after contributions and taxes, plus 20% for a spouse or partner and 15% for each child. It is proved by salary slips and six months of bank statements.
How long can I stay on the Cyprus digital nomad visa?
The first permit runs one year and a renewal up to two more — up to three years in all.
How much does the Cyprus digital nomad visa cost?
€70 to issue or renew the permit and €70 for first registration in the Aliens' Register. Insurance, translations and medical tests are extra.
Where do I apply for the Cyprus digital nomad visa?
In Cyprus, at the Migration Department in Nicosia, within three months of arriving. The application can be filed in person or through an authorised representative.
Can my family work in Cyprus on the digital nomad visa?
No. A spouse or partner and minor children receive their own permits for the same period but may not be employed or carry on any economic activity in Cyprus.
Do digital nomads pay tax in Cyprus?
A digital nomad who spends more than 183 days in Cyprus in a tax year is a Cyprus tax resident, provided he is not tax resident anywhere else. How his foreign income is then taxed is for a Cypriot tax adviser.
Where this sits in the rest of the site
Retiring in Cyprus on the visitor's permit, and the 5% pension tax, is in retiring in Cyprus. Digital nomad routes elsewhere are in the Greece digital nomad visa, the Dubai remote work visa and the Argentina digital nomad visa. Every figure here is traced on the sources page. How this route compares with five other countries' nomad visas — income, cost, term and what comes after — is in digital nomad visa countries.
If you plan to work remotely from Cyprus
We do not give legal or tax advice. What we do is put a person who knows what they are asking in front of a licensed adviser in Cyprus. The questions that decide this route are rarely the €3,500. They are whether the scheme has room on the day you file, whether your income can be shown net, and what happens to your tax after 183 days. Send them through the enquiry form. We take no part in the fee.
